Introducing: George W. Wheless, Company H, 37th Georgia, Bate’s Brigade

Descendant Sam Patterson recently submitted his Franklin ancestor information.

My Great Grandfather , my Mother’s Grandfather , (George W. Wheless {often misspelled Wheeless} was in Company H, 37th Georgia, Bate’s Brigade at Franklin. He went on to fight at Nashville and surrendered in North Carolina. He also fought at Murfreesboro (in the 9th Georgia which later merged with the 3rd Georgia to become the 37th) , Chickamauga, Missionary Ridge, and Atlanta. He is the one on the right in the attached photo. His Brother Lafayette Wheless is on the left.
