Lookout Mountain, Chattanooga: then and now

Here’s an image taken from Lookout Mountain in the LOC collection. There were three Medal of Honor winners on Lookout Mountain in November 1863.

Peter Kappesser, 149th NY Infantry, captured a flag.

John Kiggins, 149th NY Infantry, helped save the life of several of his comrades.

Norman F. Potter, 149th NY Infantry, captured a flag.

And here is essentially the same view (just a bit higher on the mountain) today.

  1. Looking for information on Neff, owner of home on Lookout Mountain, TN perhaps during 1879- 1920…some say the home was once a pharmacy or drugstore and was sold to Charles Seagle. Seagle’s son n law, I. Barrows lived at the home for over 60 years until we bought the home in 1998 from his children after he died.
