Going Home by Mary Fahl (lyrics)

They say there’s a place
where dreams have all gone
They never said where
but I think I know
It’s miles through the night
just over the dawn
on the road that will take me home

I know in my bones
I’ve been here before
The ground feels the same
though the land’s been torn
I’ve a long way to go
The stars tell me so
on this road that will take me home

Love waits for me ’round the bend
Leads me endlessly on
Surely sorrows shall find their end
and all our troubles will be gone
And I’ll know what I’ve lost
and all that I’ve won
when the road finally takes me home

And when I pass by
don’t lead me astray
Don’t try to stop me
Don’t stand in my way
I’m bound for the hills
where cool waters flow
on this road that will take me home

Love waits for me ’round the bend
Leads me endlessly on
Surely sorrows shall find their end
and all our troubles will be gone
And we’ll know what we’ve lost
and all that we’ve won
when the road finally takes me home

I’m going home
I’m going home
I’m going home

  1. what a beautiful song which fits perfectly with such a wonderful place . my wife and i came over from scotland to visit nashville last year and our friends , ronny mangrum and nashvilles queen of the blues , miranda louise took us to the battle of franklin , carter house and this amazing place with such a fantastic story . it brought completely to mind the bravery of the confederate army , of young boys really and their stand to keep the way of the south .

additionally we found tennessee really beautiful and very scottish . i have always had a very strong draw towards the confederate cause , since i was a very small boy . imagine my astonishment to find later from ronny that one of my ancestors, who was scots, fought and died at the battle of franklin .

please tennessee and the usa govt , keep this place special , support the many people , in these very political correct times ,who are trying to keep your history intact

    kindest regards from scotland

  2. Thanks so much for posting this!!!
I ran a search after hearing it on TV and find the lyrics just sooo comforting and appropriate for an upcoming funeral.
This wil touch soo many hearts and tears when it is sung.

Now, I’m looking for music so we can practice. Hopefully, there will be time.
    God Bless you!
